1. What kinds of jobs are available with the City of Miramar?: The City of Miramar employs people in a variety of fields related to Community Services, Community Standards, Community Development, Finance and Administrative Services, Human Resources, Police, Public Works and Utilities, Safety and Fire Prevention, Emergency Services and many others.

2. What if I am interested in a job that is not currently open?: You can complete a job interest card to be notified by email or mail when the job classification of interest is next announced. You may then submit an official application by the closing date of the announcement.

3. How do I find out what career opportunities I can apply for at the City of Miramar?: When positions are available, the City of Miramar advertises available positions on this website. You may review the current Job Postings section in this website.

4. What happens if I missed the closing date indicated in the announcement?: Applications are only accepted during the announcement period. You may complete a job interest card to be notified when the job classification of interest is next announced.

5. How do I apply for a career opportunity?: Follow "How to Apply" instructions specified on each announcement. Depending on the position, an application and photocopies of documents will be required.

6. What is important to know about completing an application?: It is important to be as complete as possible in providing all the information required at the time of application. Be sure to specify any required degrees, graduation dates, certifications, licenses and document your work experience indicating corresponding employment dates. Any required accredited college or university education must be verifiable from a reliable source within the United States or its territories or possessions, and information identifying that source must be submitted with the application. Additional information will not be accepted after the announcement closing date.

7. Am I eligible to receive Veteran's preference?: Veteran's preference will be granted to Florida residents in accordance with Florida law to eligible veterans and spouses of veterans. Preference points will be awarded only if copies of supporting documentation (DD-214 and/or proof of receipt of disability benefits) and the Veteran's Preference Form Veteran's Preference Form is provided at the time of application.

8. What happens after I apply for a career opportunity?: After the closing date, applications are reviewed by a department representative. Only the most highly qualified applicants will be selected and scheduled for any examinations and/or interviews.

9. What kind of exam(s) will I be taking?: Depending on the position, the examination process may consist of one or any combination of the following: written exam, performance exam, education and experience evaluation, oral exam and/or other job related examinations. A passing grade is required on every examination. If a written and/ or performance test is required, it will be conducted by the Human Resources Department.

10. What if I need a special testing accommodation?: The City of Miramar provides necessary reasonable accommodation in the examination process upon request to persons with disabilities. Please call us at 954-602-3800 upon submission of your application prior to any scheduled examination.

12. What happens after I take a test?: Applicants that pass will be scheduled for any additional testing or will be notified in writing of final score and position on the Civil Service Register. Applicants that fail will be notified in writing.

13. When would I be considered for a position?: When a vacancy occurs, the Department Director with the vacancy must make a selection from candidates on a register. Employment is subject to the selected candidate passing a background verification and medical examination which includes a drug screening for all candidates working in safety sensitive positions.

14. What happens if I am hired?: The City of Miramar provides generous employment benefits to fit your needs. For benefits eligible employees, benefit eligibility begins 31 days following the date of employment.
